The Jefferson Tree Committee will join with Alliant Energy in sponsoring a spring
tree planting day in the city of Jefferson on May 4.
Planting will be done by eighth-graders in the Greene County Community School
District in the city parkings on the west ends of Harrison and Monroe Streets in
Jefferson. It will begin at 8:15 am and end by noon.
Brad Riphagen of Trees Forever has ordered 40 trees (Kentucky coffee, river birch,
sycamore, native mulberry, and two types of oak) from Iowa Native Trees and
Shrubs by Luther. In addition, the Tree Committee will replace a couple of elms that
have died in Daubendiek Park.
These trees were purchased with a grant from Alliant Energy. The rain date for
planting is May 6.
