Zachary WailesA Breda man was sentenced to prison for a December incident.

According to court documents, twenty-two year-old Zachary Michael Wailes was recently sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to two aggravated misdemeanors for his second offense of possession of a controlled substance and eluding. He was originally charged with felonies, but court documents show his charges were amended to misdemeanors.

The charges stem from a high speed chase on December 26th that started in Jefferson when a deputy tried to pull over the vehicle that Wailes was driving for a broken headlight. Wailes then led authorities on a chase that reached 100 miles-per-hour and ended west of Dallas Center on 230th Street when Wailes lost control after hitting stop sticks.

Wailes was sentenced to two years at Oakdale Medical Center for each charge to run consecutively and credited for time already served. He was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines, court costs, attorney fees, surcharges and victim restitution.
