Greene County went 3-0 on Saturday at the Ogden Softball Tournament. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team, a Class 4A program this season, downed 2A Ogden 10-7, 2A Madrid 6-4, and 1A Martensdale-St. Mary’s by a 4-1 final. The victories lift the Rams to a 4-2 overall season record with a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference contest in Jewell vs. South Hamilton on Tuesday, May 31.

Coach Tom Kennedy reports the Rams downed the host Bulldogs on the strength of 12 hits in a game halted after six innings by a time limit. Sydney Koch was there for three and both Carleigh Paup and Megan Carey were three of four. Koch and Paup each doubled twice and scored two runs. Koch drove in three runs and Paup had two RBI. Jenna Beyers also had two runs batted in. Megan Durbin had a single and one RBI. Hannah Promes was the winning pitcher. She went all six innings with one strikeout and nine hits allowed. Promes walked four batters and five of the runs were earned. The Rams had just one error while Ogden had three.

Greene County was the home team vs. Madrid and the Rams led 6-1 after four innings. The Tigers  put three runs on the board in the seventh. The Rams had seven hits to three for Madrid. Hannah Promes had a single, double, and three RBI. All the other Greene County hits vs. the Tigers were singles from Beyers, Samantha Hardaway, Koch, Carey, and Paup. Carey and Paup each had one run batted in. Hardaway pitched and picked up the first victory of her varsity career.

The Rams ended the day with a 4-1 win over M-St.-M. Greene County trailed 1-0, but scored all four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in a game that saw each team collect just three hits. Promes went all seven innings for the victory. The MSM run was unearned. Promes walked three and struck out three. The Rams had two errors had the Blue Devils had three. Offensively, Greene County had base hits from Beyers, Paup, and Koch, and Laurin Lyons batted in a run.

Beyers, Carey, Koch, and Paup, all Paton-Churdan students, combined to go 18 for 37 on the day.
