A Jefferson woman won’t have to spend any additional time behind bars after being sentenced in Greene County District Court for a November 2015 incident.
According to court documents, 28 year-old Brittany Kay Smith was sentenced to two days in jail and one year of probation after pleading guilty to a simple misdemeanor for domestic abuse assault.
The charge stems from an argument between Smith and her boyfriend in the 300 block of Chestnut Street on November 12, 2015. She pushed her boyfriend against a vehicle and grabbed him by the throat. Smith was originally charged with a felony for her third or subsequent domestic abuse assault, but court documents show the charge was amended to a misdemeanor. This case was pending with another domestic abuse incident from this past January, but that charge was dismissed.
In her plea agreement, her 30-day jail sentence was suspended for all but two days with credit for time already served. She was also ordered to take a Domestic Abuse Intervention Services Program and there would be a no contact order in place during her probation.
