8th grade students at West Central Valley Middle School recently held an event that honored the tradition of passing stories down orally.

Social studies teacher Leslie Wiles says the oral history celebration featured community members sharing stories of serving in wars, immigrating to the United States, going to drive-in movies and other tales from the past.

Wiles adds the program gave students a greater appreciation of previous generations while also building a stronger bond between local classrooms and the larger community.
