Each town’s severe weather siren will be tested every month in Greene County.
The E-911 Service Board adopted a new policy to activate each community’s siren at noon on the first Saturday of every month. It will help to exercise the batteries of each siren for functionality and maintenance. It costs $460 to replace the batteries in each siren.
The sirens are also equipped with a dual power system, so if something happens to the primary power source, the sirens have a backup in place to run the siren for an additional five minutes if necessary during severe weather.
The test will last for a full three minutes.
