Greene County School Board 3_16The Greene County School Board recently approved three of four projects for the summer.

The School Board approved to resurface the high school track, including repainting and resealing it, for $42,950 from Midwest Tennis and Track; upgrading the electrical wiring at the elementary school for $21,427 from SCI Communications, however after a rebate, the district will only pay $6,428; and removing asbestos in the underground tunnels of the administrative building and middle school for $25,000 from August Enterprises.

However, the School Board is still considering a fourth project. Superintendent Tim Christensen says they discussed installing an entry door security camera and buzzer system at each of the four school buildings. One of the main concerns from some of the School Board members were whether or not someone would actually report to the office once they were buzzed in, which Christensen adds is a challenge.

“The middle school in particular, there’s a significant amount of distance between the door coming in and the actual office. We do have cameras inside the building, but what’s a camera system look like (and) a screen and everything to make sure that the person-once they’re buzzed in-they get from Point A to Point . So there’s a lot more to it than just putting in a camera and buzzing system at the front door.”

All members of the School Board agreed that they need to install some kind of security measure at the entry doors, but they want to look at other options before making a final decision.

The topic will be further investigated at the regular board meeting in May.
