Senator Jerry BehnThe Iowa legislative session is suppose to end tomorrow, after that lawmakers no longer receive per diems.

District 24 State Senator Jerry Behn says the last order of business before they can wrap up the session is agreeing on the state’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year. However, not many budget bills were considered last week.

“Once you get the paperwork done, it has to be printed. They still have to go through all the work of editing each one of those bills and some of those bills can be complicated. Particularly, if you edit or change even one word, it can shift them all to different lines. So it can be just a long, drawn out process.”

Since Behn doesn’t sit on any of the budget subcommittees, he says he hasn’t seen any of the budget bills that need to be debated on the Senate floor for final approval. However, the Senator from Boone believes the session will be finished by the end of this week.

Behn will tell us more about the session and some of the other bills that were debated on today’s Let’s Talk Greene County program. It airs during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
