The state legislative session is expected to wrap up this week.
District 19 State Representative Ralph Watts says one bill the House passed recently has to do with water quality.
“A part of the sale tax that people are currently paying on their water bills, changing that to an excise tax and using some of that money to run through the Iowa Finance Authority which would help process water plants all over the state to upgrade their equipment if they needed to. They could get the funds if they needed to and then be assured of assistance through that finance authority, where they might be able to bond or do whatever they needed to to upgrade their facility, it would help.”
Watts says he’s in favor of the bill because it “got to the heart of the issue” when it comes to water quality.
Hope that a bill will pass through both chambers this session is fading however as the Senate is not in favor of the House bill.
We’ll hear more from Watts on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
