2015 relay for life pic 9One of the features of Greene County Relay for Life is the Color Out Cancer 5K event.

Organizer Sherry Graven is hoping for good weather to bring lots of people out to participate in the third annual event.

“The first year was really fabulous. In fact we had to keep ordering more shirts because we kept having people register and register late, which was fine. Last year the weather was a little bit iffy so that kind of caused our numbers to be down. So we’re hoping for some sunshine and a lot of participation this time around.”

The race is meant to be entertaining and educational with five different stations with colors that correspond to a different kind of cancer. Graven adds that at the end, there will be a color blast and participants can also throw color powder on themselves.

“It seems like the young kids really, really like it and the more they can get doused, the more they seem to like it. It’s just a really fun event for a family or an individual to participate in.”

Pre-register by April 15th for $20 for adults and $10 for anyone ages 12 and younger and be guaranteed a free t-shirt. There is a limit of 300 shirts which are donated by American Athletic Incorporated, Spalding and Russell Athletic. If you register after April 15th, it is $25 for adults and $15 for anyone 12 years-old and younger.

Registration forms are available at the Greene County Community Center or by clicking the link below. Check-ins will start at 9:30am on Saturday, April 23rd at the community center and the race will begin at 10:30am.
