This year’s Perry Chamber 4th of July Fireworks Drive kicks off bright and early and continues throughout the day.
Starting at 5am, our Raccoon Valley Radio Big Red Radio and volunteers will be set up in the parking lot of Hy-Vee in an attempt to catch commuters on their way out of town for work. Anyone who donates to the cause will receive a free cup of coffee courtesy of Hy-Vee.
Beginning at 7:30am, additional volunteers will be running a bucket brigade downtown on the corner of 2nd Street and Willis Avenue. At 8am the annual pie auction will start on KDLS. Auctioneer Tom Burkgren will lead the charge as bids for the dozen baked goods are called in to 465-5357.
The Big Red Radio will return to the Hy-Vee parking lot from 4-6pm and Chamber Board members will be walking around to businesses during the lunch hour.
Additionally, Fareway and Hy-Vee have both agreed to do round-ups through Sunday, April 17th and running totals from the competition will be announced on-air all next week.
Chamber Director Bob Wilson says the cost of fireworks continues to rise each year and therefore the goal is to raise more money in 2016 than ever before. His hope is to bring in at least $15,000.
