Richard BurkhardtA Jefferson man was sentenced to probation for a July incident.

According to court documents, 47 year-old Richard Burkhardt had his prison sentence suspended and was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to a serious misdemeanor for interference with officials acts.

The charge stems from an incident on July 16, 2015, when Burkhardt made several harassing 911 phone calls to dispatchers and officers at the law enforcement center. After a few attempts to reason with Burkhardt failed, officers and deputies went to his home in the 400 block of East McKinley Street later that evening and Burkhardt allegedly rushed one of the officers causing abrasions and damaging some of the officers equipment.

He was originally charged with a felony for assault on a peace officer and misdemeanors for assault on a peace officer and criminal mischief, but the charges were amended to the one misdemeanor for interference with official acts.

He was also ordered to pay fees to the Greene County Sheriff’s office and victim restitution.
