With spring finally here, though it may not feel like it this week, the Perry Police Department wants to remind everyone of some simple things they can do to stay safe.
Chief Eric Vaughn offers the following advice.
“We want to encourage all bicyclists to use the trails or follow the rules of the road if they’re on the streets. Practice good safety, obey all the signs and stop signs that vehicles do and wear a helmet, we always encourage that too. Skateboarders should be traveling the same as vehicles, so they should be going with the flow of traffic. We have a lot of complaints about that. We also get a lot of complaints about skateboarders or people walking in the street when it’s dark out. So if you’re going to be in the street, we discourage that if you can use the sidewalk we’d rather have you up on the sidewalk just for your safety. If you’re going to be out on the street wear something reflective if you can, or some kind of light or something would be great.”
During Monday’s City Council meeting, a resident also expressed concern with motorized vehicles traveling in the streets and being hard to see. The City’s safety committee will be taking a look at the issue and possibly adding the vehicles to the ordinance that is currently in place for other modes of transportation.
