The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
During open forum, Marge Westphal with Home Care Services introduced their new board president Lenne Orona to the Supervisors. Orona shared a bit about her background and history in and out of Dallas County.
The Board then approved payroll change notices for the conservation department, sheriff’s office and emergency medical services department as presented. Board Chairman Mark Hanson then mentioned that Chief Deputy Doug Lande informed him last Friday there were 15 Dallas County prisoners in the Story County jail. This comes at a cost of $55 per person, per day plus transport costs. Supervisor Kim Chapman asked several department heads to work together and determine the cost to taxpayers for both the prisoner overflow and the transportation officer position as a way to better inform the public about the issue.
A construction contract with Dox Construction of DeSoto for the 210 North 10th Street project was then approved at a cost of $48,125 for materials and labor.
Craig Walter, Vicki Klein and Gail Smith were then reappointed to the planning and zoning commission for terms expiring March 31, 2019.
The Board then heard an update on the north campus. A roof leak issue was reported and the Board plans to have someone come out and inspect the roof and determine how to move forward.
The 14th pay application for the human services campus project was also approved in the amount of $247,342 to Larson and Larson Construction. This is for full payment for the project, minus retainage for minor punch list items.
Finally, the Board further discussed space needs for various departments and the future of the 902 Court Street building, though no formal action was taken.
