The Stuart Public Library is inviting the public to celebrate a commonly forgotten holiday later this month.
Everyone is invited to come and make May Baskets at 4 p.m. on April 29th to give to a friend or family member on May Day, which is on May 1st.
Director Sandy Pollard says part of the May Basket tradition is outdated, but they are still fun to make. “The tradition is you make May Baskets, fill them with popcorn or candy, leave them on somebody’s porch, then run. Of course, that’s probably not very safe anymore, but making the baskets is still a tradition.”
Pollard adds that attendees will be able to make their own basket and then fill it with candy, popcorn and decorative flowers. For more information call 515-523-2152.
