Greene County sends its girls’ track and field squad southwest to Audubon for today’s Wheelerette Early Bird Meet. No team score will be kept in the meet featuring primarily smaller schools from Western and Southwest Iowa. Starting time is 4:30 p.m. and Ram girls’ head coach Kelly Simpson said Monday’s Early Bird Meet in Jefferson got the outdoor season underway, but he may learn more about his team at the Audubon meet . Some of the girls returned from the Dominican Republic late Sunday night, hadn’t practiced in 10 days, then were in a meet on Monday. “Monday’s meet was more of a glorified practice for us, but hopefully it set us up with some times on kids we’re unsure of. We’ll set things up differently for Audubon than we did Monday night.”

The coach added the expectation for today’s meet may be a little different. “Maybe a little more competitive than Monday, but we still have more questions than answers right now, so that’s what we’re trying to solve.”

Greene County won four of the 19 events at its Early Bird Meet and had several runner-up finishes.
