Greene County High School’s boys’ track & field squad heads to Winterset Friday for the first scored meet of the season. The Rams opened the outdoor campaign on Monday at the Greene County Early Bird Meet in Jefferson where no team score was kept. The Rams won the most events of the five teams involved, with wins in seven of the 18 events.
Head Coach Dean Lansman commented to Raccoon Valley Radio about the performances he saw from the Rams. “I was very happy with Monday night. We didn’t have a full squad with a couple kids gone (and Spring Break the week leading up to the meet), but the ones that were there participated really well. They ran real hard and competed, and that’s what we wanted to see.”
A highlight of the field events for the Rams was a first place finish by senior Matthew Gordon with a toss of 48′ 4″ in the shot put. Junior Mason Burkett was sixth in the shot at 42′ 4″ and the coach talked about those performances. “I watched Matthew and Mason throw all four throws and for them it was awesome. I was thinking if they could get in the low 40’s they would be happy and I would be happy, and I think both of them were thrilled with what they threw and know they know what they can do moving forward. Plus, it was the first time they’d truly been in an outdoor ring.”
Senior Max Neese was in on four of the victories on Monday with senior Daric Whipple on three first place events. Juniors Logan Lansman and Chase Stoline were on a pair of first place relays and senior Tyler Beger was on one winning relay.
