A reminder for all seventh and eighth graders in Greene County that a new event is happening this week.
ACCESS Assault Care Center is working with several local entities to put on the “Silence Hides Violence” program for parents and teens to learn how to talk about difficult topics like dating abuse, cyber safety, harassment, bullying, peer pressure and substance abuse. Youth Sexual Abuse Advocate Brittany Lenaghan says the idea for the event came from one of their Greene County Coalition Against Domestic Violence meetings.
“Basically it’s just a meeting where we figure out how we can provide services for the community and how we can help out. And we all thought, well hey, let’s start an event that targets seventh and eighth graders and help them with that transition into high school and helping that open communication occur between parents and teens.”
It will take place on Friday, March 4th between the Webb House and the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson from 6 to 8pm. Free walking tacos will be served prior to the start of the program. No pre-registration is necessary.
Lenaghan will tell us more about the event today on Let’s Talk Greene County. It airs during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on KG 98.9FM.
