The Perry Bluejays sent 5 wrestlers to the state tournament in Des Moines last weekend. Freshman Kaleb Olejniczak went 1-2 at the tournament after capturing both the sectional and district title. The youngster was seeing his first action in more than a month after breaking his hand in the Ames Invitational. Head Coach Trevor Kittleson was not surprised with Olejniczak’s ability to bounce back.
“Kaleb is a really smart kid and an extremely hard worker. He also has great support at home and so I knew he was going to be alright coming back after a lengthy layoff. I told him to just out and wrestle as if everything was alright. The moment you start paying attention to the injury is the moment you run into trouble. He was aggressive and wrestled his type of match in the sectionals and districts. I was proud of him.”
Olejniczak will return next season hoping to lead a strong group of returning underclassmen as Perry looks to get back on top of the Raccoon River Conference.
