Two teams who are quite familiar with one another will match up tonight in Johnston as Raccoon River Conference foes Perry and Boone meet for the third time this season in a 7:00 3A District Final.  The winner moves into Monday night’s Sub-state final against the winner of Glenwood and Atlantic.

The two teams split during the course of the regular season with each squad defending the home hardwood.  Boone pounded Perry back in mid-January 77-58 while the Bluejays returned the favor 2 weeks ago blasting the Toreadors 88-59.  Boone played the second game without one of their top scorers in John Herrick.  He returned Monday night in Boone’s upset win over Co-Raccoon River Conference champion ADM.  Tanner Schminke led a balanced Boone scoring attack with 19 points in the win against the Tigers.

Ironically, the last time Perry played a game at Johnston High School was the sub-state final last year, an overtime loss to Dallas Center Grimes denying Perry their first trip to the state tournament since 1988.

“This is really a new group of kids,” stated Head Coach Ned Menke. “We have a lot of guys who were part of that team but the personality of this year’s squad is really different.  One thing I have to say is that no matter how poorly or how well we play, the kids are always confident.  This is a real confident group that believes they can win every night.  As coaches, I think we reflect back more on that exciting game last year and the pain we felt coming up just short.  The kids are more resilient and focused on the task this year.”

Perry (13-9) and Boone (8-14) will tip off at 7:00 tonight.  Shawn Kenney will have the play by play on KDLS 99.7 fm and 1310 am along with live streaming at raccoonvalleyradio.com.  The pregame show starts the coverage at 6:35 pm.  The following is a breakdown of the individual matchups for tonight’s game.
