20160223_112826_611As we’ve reported, Guthrie County Secondary Roads Department employees have worked about two hours extra each day this week to help improve road conditions after unseasonably warm weather over the past couple of weeks has melted snow and ice leading to muddy road  conditions.

County Engineer Josh Sebern says a warm, dry stretch of weather over the weekend along with the extra labor has gone a long way in improving road conditions. He adds that his department had to adjust on the fly and remove some snow plow equipment from their trucks in order to increase rock-hauling capacity to sloppy roads.

Sebern says that cleaning up and regrading roads is something he and his staff have to deal with every spring, but because it came unexpectedly early this year the possibility remains that we may experience a refreeze in which case county workers would need to go through the process again in a month or two.

Sebern credits the experience of his staff for being able to revitalize the roads so quickly and effectively.
