Shots were fired and officers found a large amount of marijuana and weapons after a traffic stop turned into a chase Saturday night in Greenfield.
Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Greenfield Police Chief Jesse Lund attempted to pull over a Chevy pickup truck after he witnessed it driving erratically and nearly causing an accident just after 7 p.m. The vehicle fled from Lund and stopped near a residence in the 2200 block of 220th Street in Adair County. A male driver and female passenger fled the vehicle towards the residence, leaving a juvenile female in the truck.
While Chief Lund was talking with the juvenile passenger, he heard approximately 14 shots fired from a handgun near the residence. Lund immediately called for backup from the Iowa State Patrol, Cass County Sheriff’s office, Stuart Police Department, Adair County Sheriff’s office and Greenfield Police Department.
Authorities made contact with the male suspect, 31 year-old Cole John Daughenbaugh, of Greenfield, and convinced him to peacefully walk out of the residence.
A search warrant was later executed and authorities recovered over two pounds of marijuana and over 12 firearms from the residence.
Daughenbaugh is charged with felony counts of eluding, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, failure to affix drug tax stamp, interference with official acts involving a firearm and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to obey a stop sign. The adult female in the case does not face any charges and no one was hurt in the incident.
