Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum made campaign stops in Jefferson and Greenfield on Tuesday.

A total of 26 people attended the open forums in which the former Pennsylvania senator spoke about renewable fuel standards, defeating Isis and Iran while also creating a more fair tax system. Santorum won the Iowa caucus in 2012, but entered the night of the caucus with only four percent in the Iowa polls, similar to his situation this time around with two percent. He points out a couple of factors that are making it more difficult for his campaign four years later.

“I think it’s the way that the media has tried to manipulate the race to say, ‘well these candidates are the candidates that you need to pay attention to.’ It makes it hard to break through and that’s part of the problem. The second thing is just the debates. The fact that they’ve segregated the debates and that I’m the only person left in the race who has never been on the main stage.”

Even though he spoke to small crowds, Santorum is hoping to get caucus captains from these trips and in turn they will tell other people about his platforms and other policies he is pushing for.

Jefferson and Greenfield were a part of Santorum’s 80 events that he has scheduled in Iowa from now until caucus night on February 1st.
