The Jefferson City Council met for the first time in 2016 Tuesday night.
The main topic of discussion was related to the hotel and motel tax fund criteria. 80 percent of the seven percent tax will be given for tourism promotion and 20 percent will be given to Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department. The Council approved a three tier policy for the promotion of tourism. The first tier would allow up to $30,000 to be given to the Greene County Chamber for promotion of tourism. The second tier is up to $20,000 for construction, paying off debt or operating a welcome center. The third tier is any any money left over to be given to a worthy project for a non-profit organization.
The Council also approved the design guidelines for buildings in the historic downtown district, a resolution for matching funds of $250,000 for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) facade project and a technical services contract with Region XII Council of Governments up to $27,000 for the CDBG Rehabilitation program for six homes in Jefferson.
The Council appointed Mark Clouse as Police Chief and Danny Moranville as Wastewater Superintendent. Other appointments include council committee, city positions and appointing Harry Ahrenholtz as the new Mayor Pro Tem.
The Council also set January 26th as the public hearing date for the CDBG facade project application. January 26th is also the date to receive bids for the Grimmell Road Lift Station improvements.
