The City of Perry is now part of the Beaver Creek Watershed Management Authority.
The Council approved a 28E agreement to enter into the group at their meeting Monday.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says one of the goals of the Authority is to assess flood risks.
“This group will be putting together a watershed plan and hopefully come up with some action items that will help reduce flooding not only throughout the watershed but later on down the watershed.”
The group will also work to improve water quality, educate residents and allocate monies made available for the purpose of water quality and flood mitigation.
A total of 26 jurisdictions are being invited to join the Authority including Dallas, Greene, Boone, Polk and Webster counties, several cities and several Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
Peterson says there’s no upfront cost to join the Authority and the group is currently using grant monies to complete the initial plan.
