About 100 people attended the Greene County 4-H Awards ceremony at the high school auditorium in Jefferson on Sunday.
There were several awards given to both youth and adults that are involved in the local 4-H program. 56 junior, intermediate and senior 4-H’ers were recognized for their record books, along with participation and project awards. Three inspirational awards were also given to three 4-H’ers that exemplified the spirit of 4-H. The Stellar Senior Award went to Cassidy Carstens, the Intermediate Flame Award was given to Arthur Bardole and the Junior Spark Award recipient was Lauryn Killion. Bardole was excited and honored to receive his award and he describes why he joined 4-H.
“I joined 4-H because I’ve always gone to the fair and I saw all the projects and the animals and I thought, ‘Man, that is really cool, I really want to do that.’ And so when I got old enough, the first thing I said is, ‘I want to be in 4-H.’”
Some of the adult awards were the Honorary 4-H Award to Jane Finch, the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame honorees with David and Cherie Roquet and the Award of the Clover for years of service with six adults that totaled 70 years of volunteerism.
