With several Beggar’s Night events happening today and tomorrow, several children and adults will be out celebrating Halloween in Greene County.
Jefferson Police Chief Dave Morlan has some safety reminders for those who will be trick-or-treating or attending parties. Costumes shouldn’t restrict someone’s vision and have some kind of reflective material attached so that pedestrians can be seen by others and motorists. He suggests that kids should walk in pairs or in groups, stay on the sidewalk and don’t dart out into the street. Plus, you should only go to houses that have exterior lights on.
There should also be an adult with younger kids at all times when they are out getting candy and parents should inspect the child’s candy when they get home to make sure it is safe for them to eat.
He also has some reminders for any adults attending parties.
“If you’ve had a little bit of alcohol or anything, don’t push the limit. Make sure you have a designated driver. And then just be alert and be aware and watch for the kids being out and for anything that might cause harm.”
The City of Scranton and Paton will have their Beggar’s Night tonight from 5 to 7pm and 5 to 6:30pm respectively. Tomorrow will be trick-or-treating in Grand Junction, Rippey and Churdan from 5 to 7pm. Jefferson’s suggested time on Halloween will be from 5:30 to 7:30pm.
