It’s happened only rarely, if ever, in the annuls of Jefferson-based high school football teams. The “it” is a quarterback rushing and passing for as many yards as Greene County senior Daric Whipple did, and he did it in eight games. Whipple rushed for 1,101 yards and 14 touchdowns, and he threw the ball for 1,508 yards and 17 touchdowns for the 4-5 Rams. The QB missed one game due to illness.

Greene County head football coach Dean Lansman commented to Raccoon Valley Radio. “That’s something you don’t see a whole lot of when you look across the state. He did have a great year, but it also says something about the kids that he had to work with. You had to have receivers catching the ball, the line blocking, and the other runners being able to hit the gaps to help him get the run yards by blocking, so  it’s a team concept. You see the big numbers put up by Daric, but there were a lot of others involved to make that happen, and he’s aware of that and appreciative of his teammates.”
