Greene County lost in three sets to Class 3A number one ranked Kuemper Catholic at Kuemper High School in Carroll on Monday night in the opening round of regional tournament play. The Rams end the season at 15-22 after the 8-25, 12-25, 13-25 loss in straight sets to the top rated Knights, now 26-3.

Greene County trailed all of sets one and two, then scored the first two points in the third set before the Knights scored seven straight points to take control.

Head Coach Donna Carhill said of the meeting with the Knights, “This was a tough match and I thought the team never gave up no matter what the score. I saw our defense dig up some great kills, we scored points offensively against a much taller net defense, and we served tough the entire night. I was very proud of our play at such a competitive level.”

Junior Hannah Promes led her team in assists with 21, and in serving by going 12 for 12 with two aces. Senior Katelyn Hagen had a five for five serving night, and led in digs with seven. Senior Alison Gallagher had six digs, and junior Nadia Fisher led in kills with 16, which accounted for nearly half of the Rams’ total points.

The match was the final one for the Rams’ five seniors Mackenzie Dennhardt, Gallagher, Hagen, Hannah Peterson, and Nicole Rohner.
