Greene County Public Health is offering one final opportunity for residents to get their flu shot from the comfortable of their vehicle tomorrow.
Staff will be at the Central Christian Church parking lot in Jefferson from 9 to 11am on Saturday for the second of two drive-thru flu clinics. 15 people took advantage of the new service on Monday at the fairgrounds. Flu shots will be administered without anyone having to leave their vehicle.
Public Health Director Becky Wolf says this year’s flu vaccination protects against four strains of influenza. She describes who makes the decision of what comprises the flu shot each year.
“CDC (Center for Disease Control) and other scientists, they’re tracking trends throughout the world. They are looking at what strains have been effecting like the North American continent. And that gives them the ability to figure out what’s going to be the best predicted strains that might occur in North America. And then that’s what they determine what they’re going to place in the vaccines for that year.”
While Influenza can happen anytime of the year, Wolf points out that the highest peak of the flu happens between Christmas and the end of January. The symptoms of the flu include high fever, the chills, sore throat, coughing, aching all over and being very weak. It can also cause pneumonia.
Wolf recommends anyone over six-months old get the flu vaccine, because some protection is better than no protection against the flu.
