To go undefeated for an entire sports season is difficult to do, but do it two years in a row is even more remarkable.
That is exactly what this year’s eighth grade Greene County football team accomplished. Head coach Chad Morton attributes his players for their success on the field.
“It’s a good group of kids. I think anyone that would’ve stepped into this coaching position would’ve done the same thing. A unique thing about this class is they have 36 kids out for football. One thing we struggled with is finding everybody play time.”
Before the season started, there wasn’t a head coach lined up, so Morton took the reins after coaching the same kids last year to a perfect 6-0 record as seventh graders. It was a gratifying season for Morton both because of the undefeated record at 6-0, as well as coaching one of his sons. The perfect season was almost ruined when the Rams played Nevada on Thursday and won 6-0. Morton notes that the defense held the opposition for four downs on the Rams two yard line to pull out the victory.
Morton hopes his players enjoy the moment of being undefeated throughout their middle school careers, but realize that their best years in life are far from over.
