Greene County will try to get back in the football win column on Friday night in Humboldt. The Rams are 2-3 on the season and 0-2 in Class 3A District 2 after a 36-34 loss in Jefferson on Sept. 25 to unbeaten and third ranked Webster City. Coach Dean Lansman’s team has lost three games in a row to opponents with combined win/loss records of 12-3, but the next three opponents on the Rams’ schedule are a combined 2-13.
The offense and extra point kicking are among the leaders in Class 3A through the first five weeks of the season. Kicker Nick Schroeder is 20 for 20 on extra points, which is the best among the 56 teams in the class. Five other teams have also made 100% of their PAT kicks, but none have as many attempts as the Rams.
Greene County is 11th in 3A in scoring offense at 171 points (34.2 points per game). The Rams have the most number of points scored in the class among teams with a losing record. The only other team in the top 20 in scoring with more losses than wins is Ballard (Huxley) at 20th in scoring.
The Rams and Humboldt can be heard on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage of the Wildcats’ homecoming game starts at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
