About 75 people attended Monday night’s town hall meeting at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.

Several presenters gave updates and previews of upcoming projects around Greene County.  Chief Executive Officer of Greene County Medical Center Carl Behne spoke about the expansion project.  The newest addition was operational on August 31st.  The second phase includes renovating the A and B Levels in the coming months.  The hospital is also looking for two more physicians for UnityPoint Clinic.

Next was Vice-President of Operations for Scranton Manufacturing Jim Ober about the newly completed expansion project.  Key parts to the northern portion is installing paint bays and allowing more production space for a new garbage truck called a Roto-Pac which uses an auger to compact garbage.  Currently, Scranton Manufacturing has hired 27 of its 75 new positions.

General Manager of Cargill Pork Jane Fallon gave an update about the possibility of building a new feed mill.  She said that since Cargill Pork was sold to JBS, they have to wait for the agreement to be finalized before discussions about building a sixth feed mill facility can start again.  She’s confident that the project will happen.  One of the possible locations in Greene County is along Highway 30 near Grand Junction.

Other speakers included Greene County Schools Superintendent Tim Christensen talked about enrollment, teacher leadership program and the bond referendum; Jefferson Matters: Main Street Program Director Peg Raney discussed a market study and the result of that study pushing for a $500,000 matching Community Development Block Grant; Angie Pedersen and Omega Sang with Greene County Chamber talked about upcoming tourism events and the annual meeting will be on January 25, 2016.

students performingThere was also a short performance by high school students to promote their upcoming production of “Any Play Will Do.”

Finally, Economic Development Director Ken Paxton encouraged community members to be on committees for major future projects.
