September is National Emergency Preparedness month. Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says a helpful tip during a disaster is that texting for help may actually work better than calling. “Texting is easier than making a phone call. Sometimes a text will go through, but a cell phone signal won’t go through with a phone call, because during a major disaster, the system is so busy.”
Kempf says in case of a disaster it’s also important to have a designated evacuation plan and meeting place for you and your family.
