The Greene County Rams are hosting a cross country meet today.
However, the course has changed from running around the high school in Jefferson out to Spring Lake Park.
Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says head cross country coach Kelly Simpson decided to take the race back out to the park, like it was 15 years ago. He describes what the runners will experience on the trail.
“They’re all grass, except for one around the south end of the lake, there’s a trail surfaced with concrete. You can even ride your bike on that. But for the most part, they’re fairly narrow trails through the timber that Kelly (Simpson) says they’re still plenty wide for the runners to do what they need to on it. So, you’re back to nature there. I think the runners will really like it.”
The race will consist of junior high through high school runners, starting at 4:30pm. There are about 24 teams competing, including Perry, Paton-Churdan, Guthrie Center and Panorama.
Towers hopes that by having a cross country meet on the trails, it’ll give people a chance to see the park and the trail system in it.
