Hot and humid conditions greeted runners at the 5 x 80 Golf Course south of Menlo at the West Central Valley coed cross-country meet on Thursday. Greene County was fifth among five girls’ teams and ninth among nine boys’ squads.

Olivia Hansen was fourth in the five kilometers (3.1 miles) in 22:54.38. Number two runner Emily Finch did not take part. The next best finish on Thursday for the Rams was seventeenth by Melanie Doran in 26:34.84. Sunny Mobley was number 27 in 30:23.81 and Regan Lamoureux one spot back at number 28 in 30:30.61. Emily Most was the fifth Ram runner in 32:42.85, good for thirty-second place. There were 47 runners in the girls’ race.

Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton won the girls’ title with 38 points and WCV was next at 54. I-35 (Truro) had 72 points with 80 from Adair-Casey/CAM (Anita), and 92 for the Rams.

On the boys’ side, Nodaway Valley (Greenfield) won the team title with 33 points. WCV had 92, with 96 by I-35, 113 for Woodeard Academy, 118 for A-C/CAM, 146 from Audubon, 149 by Martensdale-St. Mary’s, 208 from Clarinda Academy, and 208 for the Rams. CA broke the tie by having a sixth runner while the Rams had just the minimum of five runners.

Greene County was led by Kane Borgeson, who was twentieth in 19:40.36 for the five K event. Nick Killion was 42nd in 21:41.72, followed by Ben Wilkens, 53rd, in 22:51.08, Nathan Kennedy, 78th, in 26:45.36, and Jacob Hueser, 88th, in 33:33.04. There were 90 runners in the boys’ race.
