The public is invited to the next Greene County Historical Society monthly event on Friday.

The free program will highlight a multiple champion from the Iowa State Fair, Marianne Carlson.  The baker from Jefferson won five food categories, along with four second place and five third place finishes at last month’s state fair.  Attendees will hear from Carlson about how she prepares her dishes for the state fair.

She started baking at a young age from her late mother, Mary Coon.  Following her years of entering competitions as a 4-H’er, she didn’t started competing as an adult until 2003.  That year, Carlson points out, her cinnamon rolls were on the “Table of Shame” for the Tone’s Spice contest.  However, she came back in 2004 and won it and took top prize home again in 2006.

Friday’s free program will be at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Churdan at 1pm.  Attendees will also get a chance to see the renovated 100 year-old structure.  No registration is required.
