Greene County hosts Kuemper Catholic tomorrow night in the Rams’ varsity football home opener. The contest at Linduska Field in Jefferson is set for 7:30 p.m., and will follow a 4:45 p.m. freshman game between the Rams and Knights.
Coach Dean Lansman’s Rams opened the season last Saturday night with a 42-28 non-district victory over Class 1A preseason number nine South Central Calhoun in Lake City. The Knights lost to Carroll High 24-7 last Friday in a crosstown rivalry game. Carroll High won Class 3A District 2 last year and is one of the favorites again this season.
Kuemper managed just 94 yards offense vs. the Tigers with 64 yards on the ground and 30 through the air. The Rams had 208 yards passing and 107 more on the ground vs. South Central Calhoun.
Kuemper won 16-14 in Carroll last year, largely on the strength of a bizarre play in which the Knights were punting, made a bad snap over the punter’s head. The punter picked up the loose ball at his 14 yard line, evaded would-be tacklers and ran all the way into the Greene County end zone.
Friday night coverage on KG98 begins at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
