As we continue the countdown to our Meet the Candidates: The Perry School Board Election special magazine program tomorrow night, we introduce you to two more of the six candidates vying for director position.
Jim Lutmer is wrapping up his first four-year term on the Board. He’s a parent and currently works as the store manager at Shopko in Perry. He explains why he chose to run for reelection.
“I just want to see the good stuff that is in the pipeline and continue it. The passion is there for the kids. Making sure that our students have everything that they need to succeed. Not only the students but the teachers (too). Being a current member, we try to do what we can with what we’re allowed to do the bottom line, ultimate goal is for the sake of the kids and what we can do to make their life and future beneficial.”
Linda Andorf has three grown children who all graduated from Perry High School. An educator with decades of experience, including eight years in Perry, Andorf shares why she wants to be on the Board.
“For several years people have asked, maybe indicating I should run for school board and the timing just wasn’t right. I’ve got one year left of my (teaching) license and I’ve kind of made peace with myself that I’m not going to renew my license, because I am not wanting to do some of the things you need to do in order to renew. So this would give me an opportunity to stay in education, to be responsive to education but not necessarily in the classroom.”
Join us tomorrow for the special program where we interview each of the school board candidates who will be on the ballot September 8th. You can hear it on AM 1310 KDLS or the new 99.7 FM at 6pm. It will also be made available on demand online and via our mobile apps through election day.
