The cross-country teams from Greene County High School opened their 2015 seasons on Thursday in Ames on the Iowa State University course at the Gilbert Invitational. Both were in the largest of two classes of competition and both finished last. The girls were ninth among nine teams with 233 points, 20 points behind eighth place Nevada with 213. Gilbert won the girls’ team race with 41 points and Dallas Center-Grimes was second at 42. Shenandoah had 83 points, followed by North Polk (Alleman) 100, Newton 129, Madrid 181, Bondurant-Farrar 208.

Olivia Hansen was thirty-first in 23:47.80 and Emily Finch thirty-second at 23:48.17 to lead the Rams. The other three runners to have their scores count in the team total were Melanie Doran, 50th, in 27:04.99, Sunny Mobley, 59th, in 29:46.11, and Emily Most, 61st, in 31:51.04.

For the Greene County boys, Nick Killion led the way with a 55th place finish in 21:17.61. Kane Borgeson was 56th in 21:35.94, followed by Ben Wilkens, 74th, in 24:10.62, Nathan Kenndy, 79th, in 26:58.48, and Jacob Hueser, 82nd, in 31:06.96.

The boys’ team title went to DC-G with 21 points. Gilbert was second with 99, followed by Nevada 102, Madrid 119, NP 126, Shenandoah 161, B-F 163, Saydel 200, Newton 255, Des Moines North 294, Perry 344, and 346 for the Rams.
