The annual season opener against Perry shifts to the north for the ADM football Tigers, who kickoff the 2015 season at 7:30 p.m. tonight against the Blue Jays at Dewey Field in Perry.
Both teams lost a considerable amount of players off of their 2014 roster. For the Tigers, the only skill positions they return on offense include seniors Frank Weiland at quarterback, Blake Crannell at Running Back and Jacob Hardy at tight end. In all, ADM returns five starters that play both ways.
Perry faces the considerable task of replacing do-it-all quarterback Will Whiton, now a defensive back for South Dakota State University. The reigns have been handed off to senior Ryan Rathje, who boasts an imposing 6-5 frame.
ADM head coach Mike Whisner said he expects another tough test from the Blue Jays similar to last season’s 15-9 win over Perry at a rain-soaked ADM football field.
“We know from last year what they have coming back they’re going to be big and physical, and they still have a really good running back,” Whisner said. They’ll replace Whiton at quarterback, it’ll be maybe a little bit different. But in the same sense they have the physical guys up front and a running back for the running game. We think they’ll be very strong on offense and defensively they’ve always been physical, so it should be an interesting game for both teams especially with some people gone that you relied on the year before.”
The Tigers have won three of the last four meetings. Our pregame coverage on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com begins at 7 p.m.
