An event will be held this Sunday in Jefferson to raise funds for a scholarship in memory of a loved one who lost their battle with cancer.

The Sharon Towers Scholarship fundraiser and it will be at the home of Mike and Kathy Bravard on Sunday from 12:30 to 5pm.  It will feature a meal served by the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association with a live auction to begin at 2pm.  All proceeds will go to continuing a scholarship fund in Sharon’s name.  Some of the larger auction items include Iowa State and University of Northern Iowa football tickets, a quarter of beef package, an iPad Mini and much more.

In honor of Sharon’s love of the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa, a recreational bike ride will start before the fundraiser at 11am.  Participants will meet at Spring Lake Park’s picnic area north of the skating rink.  Bikers will travel from the park to the Bravard’s home at 746 Q Avenue and back to the park.  The entire trip is about 12 miles and shower facilities are available at the park.  In case of inclement weather, Raccoon Valley Radio will announce changes to the bike ride.  Information will also be on their Facebook page.

Sharon lost her battle with brain cancer is past March at the age of 52.  The Towers family presented the first scholarship to Jolee Wessling from Grand Junction, who graduated from Greene County High School this past May.
