Turnover margin can tell a lot about the state of a football team, particularly at the high school level.
In 2014, the ADM football team had a turnover margin of worse than -4, as the Tigers created just 14 takeaways while throwing 18 interceptions. The amount of fumbles lost is not available.
ADM’s defense intercepted seven passes and recovered seven fumbles last season, which doesn’t nearly tell the whole story for a unit that at time carried the Tigers last season.
With the 2015 season just two days away, Tigers head coach Mike Whisner said improving upon the turnover margin, on both sides of the stat, was a point of emphasis in preseason camp.
“We really stress the turnover and how important it is in football in general, but high school football especially and capitalizing on those turnovers offensively,” Whisner said. “So, defensively we want to create turnovers and if we can, score. If not, [create a] turnover so the offense can capitalize on that turnover. Those are big.”
ADM opens the season 7:30 p.m. Friday night at the Perry Blue Jays, a game that can be heard live on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
