When Greene County opens the high school football season on Friday night vs. South Central Calhoun in Lake City, both teams will have a number of players back from 2014 when the Titans won in Jefferson, 12-6. Among the returning SCC players are seniors Derrick Henkenius and Rylan Richardson.
Henkenius is the quarterback and defensive back. He intercepted a first quarter pass a season ago and returned it for a touchdown vs. Greene County. He also threw for 1,997 yards as a junior when the Titans went 8-4 overall and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Class 1A playoffs. The Titans are number nine in this season’s preseason rankings.

Richardson is a 6′ 3″, 225 linebacker and lineman who is one of just 24 Iowa high school football players named to the USA Today Iowa Preseason Elite team. He had 10 solo and eight assisted stop vs. the Rams last year.
