As back to school safety week continues, today we focus on school permits for teen drivers.
Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn says drivers under the age of 16 are only allowed to drive to and from school and school activities.
“This is for the most direct route from your home to the school or from the school or your home to wherever your practice is. They are restricted from having anybody else in the car except for siblings, which changed a couple of years ago. They’re not supposed to make any unscheduled stops long the way but they can stop for gas. That doesn’t mean you can stop and get yourself a donut and a Monster (energy drink) before school, that means if you need gas, you can stop and get gas.”
Vaughn also notes that teen drivers do have a curfew of 10:30pm.
