The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.
The Board voted 3-2 to deny the first reading for a noise reduction ordinance. The Supervisors previously voted on the same topic at last week’s meeting, but the motion to place it on a first reading ended in a 2-2 tie, with Supervisor Dawn Rudolph not present at that meeting.
About 12 people attended the public hearing on a Certified Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) for S & A Partners. A comment was made from John McCormick about keeping the County pro-livestock. Michelle Fields said she was in favor of the new hog establishment because it meant that the County is in favor of supporting pork and pork products. Dale Hanneman asked the Supervisors to address when there’s enough hog confinements in the County to stop another one from being built. Patti Edwardson echoed Hanneman’s comment and added that the County should look at providing more variety of livestock and crops, not more hog confinements. The Board chose to recommend approval of the CAFO to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The Board then reviewed the Master Matrix scoring for a hog confinement expansion for Davis Hog and Grain. The score was 440, the minimum amount required by the DNR to approve such a project. A public hearing will be held at next week’s meeting on the topic.
The Board then heard an annual update from Genesis Development Chief Executive Officer Terry Johnson. The Board also approved hiring Desiree Rice-Lucht as a part-time jailer with the Greene County Sheriff’s office and the County Treasurer’s investment report for July of $4,922,436.82 and issuing 256 driver’s licenses last month.
