The Board had a brief discussion about its attendance policy. The new policy states that a student must attend a full day of school in order to compete or participate in an extracurricular activity. High School Principal Brian Phillips said the policy is working. He issues a warning to a student if they violate the policy, but then the student suffers the consequence if they continue to violate it. No action was taken by the Board, since it was a discussion item.
The Board received an update on some of the summer construction projects. New bleachers are installed at the football field, new cement walkways are finished at the football and baseball fields, improvements to the baseball field are still happening and the new speaker system is installed at the football field. There are 65 students out for football, 35 for volleyball and 15 for cross country.
Christensen noted that the elementary is on its second year with Schools In Need of Assistance and the middle school is in year one, due to the stipulations by the federal government that all schools should be at 100 percent proficient in reading and math.
The meeting ended in a closed session.
