Former Texas Governor Rick Perry speaking to a crowd in Greenfield Tuesday afternoon.

A presidential candidate was in Greenfield Tuesday. Former Texas Governor Rick Perry spoke to a room of about 30 people, who showed up despite pouring rain, at The Corner coffee shop. Perry admits he didn’t spend enough time in Iowa, in 2011, before the last Iowa Caucus, in which he finished in fifth place and won just two counties, Union and Taylor. Perry vows to spend more time in Iowa than Texas in the next five months. “You want to be successful in this state, you better come and spend a lot of time in Iowa. The people of this state understand the importance of what this caucus process is all about, the vetting of people who want to be President of the United States. The people of Iowa take it serious and know that’s their job.”

State Representative Clel Baudler was in attendance to hear Perry speak and says he likes the Governor, but he’s not the only candidate he’s following. “He’s on my short list. He’s on my very short list. He’s got a great story and looks to the future. But can he win? That’s what it comes down to. I’m going to see Marco Rubio tonight and he’s on my short list too.”

Perry’s Iowa trip continues today with a visit to the soapbox at the Iowa State Fair.
