Dallas County’s Emily Harney has been named first runner up in the Iowa State Fair Queen contest.

The 18 year-old Granger resident and 2015 Dallas Center-Grimes graduate, who earned the Dallas County crown last month, received the second place honor at the state coronation Saturday.  The daughter of LeAnne and Matt Harney, Emily earned a $1,300 scholarship and $300 gift card to the Jordan Creek Mall, along with a plaque and floral bouquet.

A total of 101 girls from across the state competed in the state contest, which is judged based on personality, attitude, awareness, leadership, citizenship, contribution to community, overall appearance, charm and poise.
