Voters in the Greene County School District will go to the polls on Sept. 8 and vote on a bond issue that covers many areas both academically and athletically. Activities Director Dean Lansman touches on some points concerning the existing Middle School gym, which is more than 60 years old, and continues to host varsity indoor sports. “We no longer can host the (Heart of Iowa) Conference wrestling tournament. We’re not even in the rotation because our gym isn’t big enough to put three mats down, which our conference requires. In basketball, we play mainly girl/boy doubleheaders on the varsity level and we only have two locker rooms, and one of those is quite small. You can imagine the issues with girls and boys using the same locker room, and even though the boys don’t go in until the girls are out, and vice-versa, other schools in our conference are not very happy about the situation. A new varsity competition gym at the high school would address those issues, along with several others.”
